Harvard GSD’s Design Discovery summer programs have engaged just under 300 students to discover design with us. Our Design Discovery virtual and in-person programs invited participants 18 to 65 years of age from 24 different countries and 33 U.S. states to explore their ideas with us through Architecture, Urban Planning + Design and Landscape work. Our Design Discovery Youth program engaged 15 creative Boston area high school students to explore thinking through making.

The Harvard Undergraduate Architecture Studies program held its annual fall thesis research symposium at the start of this month. A full day of fantastic projects were presented and discussed with GSD and History of Art&Architecture faculty at Harvard. Congratulations to all the students, including the 4 Design Studies students exploring contemporary challenges through visual and spatial media. The senior thesis design seminar was taught this term by GSD MDes student Hanneke Van Deursen, with Megan as Coordinating Faculty for the course.

Megan is happy to be hosting the second annual Harvard GSD Early Design Education programs Info Session for the GSD student community to review the range of teaching opportunities these programs provide to current students. Over the 2021-22 academic year, the GSD’s EDE program provided 72 total design teaching roles for GSD students and 4 leadership roles for GSD design faculty.

The Harvard Undergraduate Architecture Studies track held its inaugural Design Thesis Gallery review with a record five student design theses on display. This year’s projects included the window unit as an occupiable shading device, new soft models of the office type, the inventive agency of the corridor in healthcare design, “toilet tales” that deconstruct and improve upon the codification of the public restroom, and a proposal for incremental co-housing in Cambridge, MA. Thanks to our students and to the Harvard History of Art & Architecture faculty for the collaborative work over this past year!
